Saturday: The rain helped Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull
After an especially challenging Friday, Sebastian Vettel was all smiles after finishing as the best of the rest, behind the two Mercedes. As for Daniel Ricciardo, a small mistake cost him time, and he couldn't do better than 5th.
Sebastian Vettel (No.1) – 13th and 3rd
The four-time German champion confirmed his good form seen before the summer break: « Yesterday had nothing to do with today. We were able to do more laps today, and I think the rain helped us. In the dry, we wouldn’t have been able to qualify as high. So it was a good day for us and a good result. We should be a bit closer to the Mercedes in tomorrow’s race. »
Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 2nd and 5th
The most recent winner was unable to get ahead of his teammate during the qualifiers due to a small mistake in the Blanchimont corner: « I got a little scared at Blanchimont. This corner is difficult in the wet. You can’t take it flat out. It’s always tricky when it comes to braking balance. Since I knew the checkered flag was near, I pushed a little too hard. In hindsight, I think I lost some time, but you never do a perfect lap in these conditions. Spa is unique because the track is so long, and some parts of the circuit are drier than others. Almost every lap, you’re driving blind. It’s great to drive here. »
