Saturday: Bianchi ahead of the Caterhams for Marussia
The objective of the Anglo-Russian team will be to get ahead of the Caterhams and potentially take advantage of a race full of twists and turns as was the case in Monaco, a race during which Marussia scored the first and only points in its history.
Jules Bianchi (No. 17) – 19th and 19th
The Nice native once again beat the two Caterhams and his teammate: « I’m quite happy with my second lap and I think I extracted everything I could from the car. I made a few mistakes on my first stint but we did the maximum possible in the end. »
Jules Bianchi knows that the most important thing is to stay ahead of the Caterhams before looking at what might happen in front. As for tomorrow, I think we will have the right balance for the race. My first objective is to keep the three cars behind me, then see what happens ahead and the opportunities that might arise for us.
Max Chilton (No. 4) – 21st and 21st
The Englishman failed to get ahead of Kamui Kobayashi’s Caterham, falling short by just seven-hundredths to the experienced Japanese driver, proving that the winding track suits the Russian single-seater better.
He states: « It’s a bit frustrating since I struggled with the car this weekend on a constantly evolving track, but I did quite well in this session. On the first stint, we had an issue with the engine mapping, which means the mapping wasn’t ideal and I couldn’t get all the power. So, I had to do a new preparation lap. My second stint was my first real timed lap. I thought it was a pretty good lap, but the time wasn’t there. We’ll have to check that tonight. »
After finishing so close to the Japanese driver in qualifying, the goal will obviously be to be ahead at the end of the race: « If we look ahead to tomorrow, I think we can overtake Kobayashi at the start, and then it will all be a matter of strategy. »
