Friday: Grosjean confident, Maldonado without issues at Lotus F1
With a total of 105 laps, Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado experienced a trouble-free day during the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix of Formula 1.
Romain Grosjean (No.8) – 15th and 13th
The Franco-Swiss felt good in Suzuka today: « We spent some time adjusting the brakes, but this afternoon was quite calm. It will be interesting to see what the weather will be like this weekend with all the speculations that have been made. We had the top 10 in our sights, which is always positive with our generally good race pace. We’ll see what happens in qualifying with the challenges presented by the weather. »
Pastor Maldonado (No.13) – 17th and 16th
Except for some vibrations felt with the hard tires, the Venezuelan’s day was calm: Suzuka is a superb circuit and I think we have quite good potential here. There is still more pace to come, and our car seemed reasonable. I will have a bigger challenge in the race since I will incur a 10-place grid penalty because we are on our sixth engine, but if we can be reliable in the race, then a good result is still possible.
