Force India: Vijay Mallya states that Perez will be retained in 2015
While no official announcement has been made by Force India, its chairman Vijay Mallya states that Sergio Perez will indeed be part of the team based in Silverstone in 2015.
Since the announcement of Nico Hülkenberg’s signing with Force India, there has been anticipation regarding the future of Sergio Perez, who has stated that the contract is still in the finalization stage. However, Force India President Vijay Mallya assures that the Mexican driver will indeed be on the grid next season.
« I have a two-year contract with Sergio Perez, he can say what he wants: but I exercised my option and it’s done, » he stated to Autosport
Furthermore, Mallya revealed that the negotiations involve extending the contract until 2016: « The possibility of extending Checo’s contract until 2016 has also arisen, and that is what the negotiations are about. »
« As for 2015, we had a two-year contract with him. We exercised the option, period. We are discussing an additional year and that is the sole purpose of the negotiation. » he concluded.
