Brazil GP: Rosberg clinches pole by a whisker ahead of Hamilton

It was after a very close qualifying session that Nico Rosberg snatched the pole position from Lewis Hamilton by just 33 thousandths of a second. However, still wary from the United States Grand Prix, the German driver is not celebrating too early and knows that he will have to confirm it in the race tomorrow.

Brazil GP: Rosberg clinches pole by a whisker ahead of Hamilton

During the qualifying session at Interlagos, Rosberg managed in a final effort to snatch pole position from under the nose of his teammate Hamilton by just 0.033 seconds.

The German thus signs his tenth pole of the season, as was the case last week in Texas. However, last Sunday, he did not put up much resistance against Hamilton and was never truly able to challenge the Englishman.

That’s why he preferred not to get carried away following his achievement: « It’s a perfect job only if it works out tomorrow. So far it’s going well and I’m in the best position for tomorrow, but of course, I have to succeed in the race, unlike Austin. »

He claims to have learned from his recent defeat: « I understood what I had to improve since Austin, I couldn’t find my rhythm in the race, I understood it well, I’m confident I can improve that tomorrow. It’s a different situation, we even did a long stint this morning in the same conditions we expect tomorrow. »

Despite the small mistakes he made during his last flying lap, Lewis Hamilton greatly enjoyed the duel against Nico Rosberg and he didn’t have a bitter defeat, quite the opposite. He stated: « It was a lot of fun. Nico did a great lap and I lost a bit of time at turn 10 and a little bit at turn 1. It was great, having to go back out, keep fighting, and it should always be that close. »
