Official: Caterham will indeed be in Abu Dhabi
After a week, Caterham has achieved its goal of raising enough funds to be present in Abu Dhabi. It now has to decide on its drivers...
Finbarr O’Connell, the team administrator, stated: « We set ourselves a high target but it was worth it! In just one week, the fans made the impossible possible. We knew that the best way to keep the team alive and attract potential new buyers was to show that we are still a racing team and to be at the Abu Dhabi finale. There aren’t enough words to express how grateful we are. »
It seems, however, that not all donations have been made through the platform set up by the team since, at present, the percentage only shows 79%. It is therefore highly likely that other donors have come forward directly with the team. This is even more likely because the team is looking for at least one driver for this race, as Marcus Ericsson has decided to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
We will see if the 35,000 pounds promised by Alice Powell’s grandfather will be enough for her to make her F1 debut. Several other competitors might be interested in the position.
