Abu Dhabi extends its contract with F1
Faced with the success of its event since its inception, Abu Dhabi has just extended its contract with F1, even though it was already running until 2016.
This year, the Yas Marina Circuit is set to record the highest attendance in its history, as all its tickets are expected to be sold out again, despite the addition of 5,000 extra seats.
This scenario was also favored by the gift made by Bernie Ecclestone, who doubled the points for this season finale. Therefore, we have to wait until the end of the Grand Prix to know whether Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton will be crowned world champion.
The two parties were quick to announce that they had decided to extend their collaboration for several more years, beyond the 2016 deadline that had been announced in 2009, as explained by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the chairman of the circuit: « The race and the Yas Marina circuit have introduced Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates to tens of millions of visitors and viewers around the world. We remain committed to providing the best experience to the F1 family and ticket holders. It is a testament to the quality of our partnership with the F1 World Championship that both of us wanted to focus on delivering even more successful races. »
Faced with the astronomical cost of constructing the circuit, the tens of millions of dollars demanded by the FOM do not weigh much compared to the economic and media benefits offered by the event.
