Sahara Force India will use Toyota’s wind tunnel

This is not the first time since its withdrawal from F1 that Toyota has hosted an F1 team. Indeed, it was the Japanese manufacturer that Ferrari called upon for the renovation of its own wind tunnel during the 2013 season.

Similarly, Sahara Force India had already been an occasional customer of Toyota Motorsport GmbH facilities but, this time, it decided to use only this data source for all its aerodynamic work. The quality of these infrastructures is, indeed, globally recognized, as demonstrated by the recent Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles won in the World Endurance Championship.

Vijay Mallya, the team owner, justified this decision by the ambition he has for his team, which fought long with McLaren during the past season: « The decision to use Toyota’s facilities in Cologne is an indication of our ambitions to continue being competitive in Formula One. It’s one of the most important decisions in our history and it offers us access to one of the best wind tunnels in the world. We have already used these facilities occasionally in the past and we know the advantages of basing our entire aerodynamic research in Cologne. This will strengthen our approach and provide us with a solid foundation to build on in the years to come. »

However, at the same time, Sahara Force India will continue to operate its own wind tunnel, which it will make available to external clients. These clients may not be reassured by the fact that the owner of the premises does not consider the results produced sufficient to meet its own demands…
