Three new sponsors for Sahara Force India
After a successful 2014 season, Sahara Force India managed to attract three new partners: Skullcandy, Brandon, and Hype.
At first glance, the VJM08 is one of the single-seaters with the most different sponsors on the grid. However, a large number of these brands are concentrated within the spirits group created by Vijay Mallya, before the majority of his shares were sold to the Diageo group, which added its Smirnoff brand.
However, facing the financial difficulties of its two co-owners (Subrata Roy has been in prison for over a year and is trying to gather his bail of one billion dollars), the team must seek other resources. The arrival of Sergio Perez has thus been a good way to fill the coffers, with the support of Carlos Slim’s various America Movil brands.
Nevertheless, diversifying its portfolio of partners is always a good idea. The team was therefore able to capitalize on its very good 2014 season to search for new partners. Two of them became commercial partners of the team.
Thus, the Skullcandy brand will provide the headphones worn by the team’s engineers, where its name will be visible. Its logo will also be present on the back of the single-seaters but, since its name is not mentioned, this communication element is not expected to significantly enhance brand awareness among the general public.
The second partner is the clothing brand Brandon. They will provide the clothing worn by trackside staff as well as replicas sold to the general public. This is not the first time the company is in F1 since it is already a partner of Ferrari and Mercedes. It is also interesting to note that the brand is a subsidiary of Puma while Sahara Force India’s suits are supplied by one of its competitors, Alpinestars.
Finally, the latest partner is the energy drink Hype, which is set to become a full-fledged sponsor. This won’t be a discovery of this environment since the brand had been a sponsor of Arrows in the year of its launch in 1994, before moving in 1996 to Benetton and Williams.
But above all, its president since 2000 is none other than Bertrand Gachot. The former F1 driver knows the Silverstone team well since he worked there in 1991. Following an altercation with a London taxi driver, he had to give up his seat at Jordan to a certain Michael Schumacher…
