Louisiana GP: TV Schedule

NOLA Motorsports Park is a motorsport complex opened in 2011, a short distance from New Orleans. Its development is very aggressive; the place aims to be a key player in North American motorsport. There are plans to double the length of the current 4.4 km track to make it the largest racetrack in North America.

Challenge ahead

To cover the event, NBC Sport will use 34 onboard and robotic cameras in addition to standard equipment. The American channel will face two challenges: energizing a car race on an entirely flat track and dealing with the storms from the Gulf of Mexico, expected throughout the weekend.

The NOLA event promises to be unique as Firestone has decided to bring an additional set of rain tires, making it a total of 6 sets per car. This particular weather could certainly shake up the hierarchy glimpsed at the St. Petersburg GP.

Bonus for Karam and de Silvestro

The rookie Sage Karam, 20, has been confirmed for a second IndyCar race with Chip Ganassi Racing. The young American swaps his blue and purple General Electric car for a black and red livery, with support from mattress manufacturer Comfort Revolution and label Big Machine Records.

Simona de Silvestro will once again drive the No. 25 for Andretti Autosport. The Swiss driver will carry the colors of the nonprofit organization Ochsner Health System; a local group of clinics and hospitals.

In terms of colors, Sébastien Bourdais will feature the Mistic (green and white) version of his car, one of his two main sponsors along with Hydroxycut (green and black car). Graham Rahal is switching from orange to yellow D-A Lubricant, an engine oil manufacturer.

Stronger aero kits

After the incidents at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix (3 Safety Cars for debris on track, 8 wing changes following contacts between cars, and a spectator injured by a piece of carbon), the IndyCar officials asked Chevrolet and Honda to reinforce their aerodynamic elements. Competitors will therefore be equipped with stronger wings at the Louisiana Grand Prix.

The width of the NOLA track should help limit the collisions that lead to the loss of bodywork components.
