Satisfaction for Sauber as they make it to Q3
Sauber confirms its good form at the start of the season as both its drivers, Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson, made it to Q3. They will occupy the 5th row, with the Brazilian ahead of the Swedish driver.
Such a beautiful team performance even somewhat surprised Monisha Kaltenborn, the team director, since both drivers were only ranked 13th and 14th during the last practice session this Saturday morning: « It’s a very solid qualifying result, which is a bit surprising after the times in FP3. After having good long runs yesterday, it was important to also be quick on a single lap in order to secure a good spot on the grid. We achieved that, and it’s great. »
Felipe Nasr was keen to make up for his poor performance in the rain at Sepang, where he could not qualify better than 16th. Under normal conditions, he made it to Q3 again, achieving his best performance since his arrival in F1.
As for Marcus Ericsson, he is increasingly making people forget his failed rookie season at Caterham, where he was consistently far off his teammate’s times. Thus, he has qualified for Q3 for the second consecutive time. Therefore, he will be eager not to repeat the error made during the Malaysian race, which forced him to retire when he had the chance to score new points.
The points will, in any case, be the objective of both men during tomorrow’s race.
