Detroit GP – Qualifications 2 interrupted, Montoya starts on pole
The qualifications for the second IndyCar race of the weekend were interrupted due to the severe weather hitting southeast Michigan. The starting order will be based on championship standings. Pagenaud and Bourdais will be in 9th and 10th positions.
Saturday’s race had already ended prematurely under a red flag due to lightning. On Sunday morning, the IndyCar management decided to interrupt the ongoing qualifications due to track conditions deemed too dangerous.
The misfortune of some… makes the happiness of others
The big loser in this decision is the American Sage Karam. The rookie was leading the timing sheet for group 1 of the qualifications. However, he will start 20th, his position in the championship.
The winners are inevitably the drivers starting at the front; Juan Pablo Montoya, the championship leader, and Will Power, the reigning champion. In rainy conditions, the leaders don’t have the spray from the cars ahead of them.
70 laps or 2 hours of racing
As with the first race, the length of the event is 70 laps, or a maximum duration of 2 hours, unless the weather intervenes again. On Saturday, the IndyCar management displayed the red flag after 47 laps, after 1.5 hours of racing.
Carlos Munoz won this Saturday’s race thanks to an aggressive strategy from his Andretti Autosport team, despite starting 20th on the grid.
TV Broadcast
The race is broadcast this Sunday evening live on Canal+ Sport at 9:35 PM.
