Max Verstappen responds to Felipe Massa
The accident between Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean during the Monaco Grand Prix hasn't stopped making waves. The Dutchman, deemed responsible by the entire paddock and also by the FIA, responded this Thursday to one of his detractors, Felipe Massa.
We thought the debate on Max Verstappen’s precocity was closed. While his start to the season hasn’t been bad considering several performances (qualifying 6th in Malaysia and Spain, finishing 7th in China), his collision before the climb to Sainte-Dévote in Monaco two weeks ago with Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has once again cast doubt on the Dutchman’s youth. Brazilian Felipe Massa was quick to react. He labeled Verstappen’s driving as dangerous, while adding, according to the site skysports.com, that he is too young for Formula 1. According to him, the Dutch rookie’s responsibility is obvious.
The person in question, who is clearly not making a mea culpa, defends himself: “Everyone can have their opinion, but looking at the data, I didn’t brake too late; I braked later during the race before the accident.” Furthermore, to respond to Felipe Massa’s criticism, he doesn’t miss the opportunity to implicitly highlight Massa’s fault by comparing his own incident to the one that occurred during the last Canadian Grand Prix between the Williams driver and Sergio Pérez. In fact, the Brazilian, while attempting to overtake the Mexican, was the cause of an equally spectacular accident. “Maybe we should review last year’s race and see what happened,” Verstappen emphasized.
It is reminded that he will incur a five-place grid penalty next Sunday. Apparently, with no regrets, the Toro Rosso driver will continue to drive with passion and aggression. Massa and the rest of the paddock have been warned.
