Budapest suits Daniel Ricciardo and Red Bull
One year after his victory on the Hungarian track, Daniel Ricciardo is once again in a good position following the Hungarian qualifications as he will start in fourth position. Daniil Kvyat is further back: he will start 7th.
The fourth place should bring back good memories for the Australian as he started from the same position last year before managing to stand out and win his second victory of the season. Moreover, he finished less than four-tenths behind Sebastian Vettel, which gives him even more ambitions for tomorrow’s race: “I am very satisfied with this session and my performance in qualifying. We were very close to Seb, which is a good thing. Our long stint pace was quite good yesterday. So I’m confident we can fight with the red cars tomorrow.”
On the other hand, on the other side of the Red Bull garage, Daniil Kvyat was downcast after being clearly outperformed by his teammate; he was unable to join the fight with the Ferraris. The Russian will therefore start between the two Williams: « *It was a difficult day. It wasn’t my best qualifying because I never found a good rhythm. It’s disappointing because we should have been better on this track. We will start the race from a decent position. So we can hope to move up. It won’t be easy but we will do our best.* »
Christian Horner’s stated goal is clear, namely to fight at least with the Ferraris: « Let’s hope we can fight with the Ferraris with both our drivers because our long-run pace in free practice was promising. Even though it’s notoriously difficult to overtake here, the race is often exciting. Let’s hope the crowd can enjoy a great show tomorrow. »
