Problems continue for Fernando Alonso and McLaren
The two McLaren drivers encountered problems again, which ended their efforts in qualifying. Jenson Button was unable to get past Q1 and is ranked 16th. He will start next to his teammate, Fernando Alonso, who had to stop on track in Q2.
McLaren continues its long road of suffering in the 2015 season, as the Budapest qualifying session was marked by technical problems on both cars. It started with electrical issues in Q1 for Jenson Button, who couldn’t get past the first session: “I had no electrical power on the pit straight when I started my last lap in Q1. The engineers told me it cost me four tenths. It’s impossible to make up for that over the rest of the lap. It’s unlucky but that’s how it is.”
These new problems for the Woking team are not well-timed, as the performance seemed to be on point this time and Q2 seemed within reach for the MP4-30: « It’s really a shame because I really enjoyed driving the car today. The morning session was a bit difficult, but the car immediately felt good this afternoon. The balance was good, and we thought we would easily make it to Q2. We’re not quite fast enough yet, but at least we had a good balance » confirmed Jenson Button.
The technical troubles were about to hit the second Woking car as Fernando Alonso was forced to stop on track during Q2, which caused a red flag: « This afternoon was really unfortunate because we had a good weekend so far. We had made progress in performance and were regularly in the top 10 during the different sessions. So it was really a shame to have the problems we did in qualifying. Jenson had a problem in Q1 and my car stopped in Q2. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to continue in qualifying if the car is not able to return to the pits on its own. So it was over. »
