Reliability issues for Sahara Force India in Hungary

The mechanics of Sahara Force India will definitely have some work this weekend: after rebuilding Sergio Perez’s car on Friday, they will have work on Nico Hülkenberg’s car this Sunday evening. The German was indeed forced to hit the tire wall when his front wing broke on the straight line: “I didn’t have any warning signs that there was a problem with the front wing. There was a big vibration just before it broke. After that, I just went straight into the barriers. The impact wasn’t too bad as the track is well protected at that point and absorbed the energy well.”

The incident is eminently regrettable for the German, who was in 7th position at the time of the accident and could therefore hope for valuable points in the championship: « It’s really a shame because we lost a great opportunity to achieve a big result today. Until the accident, things were going well: I had a very good start and was fighting with the Red Bulls, which shows how much we have progressed with the B car. »

As for his teammate, things got complicated when he had a severe collision with Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus early in the race, which unbalanced his car: « The first laps were very good, and we gained a lot of places. But the contact with Pastor compromised my race. I paid attention to him and left him plenty of space, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. After that, it became hard to score points. Eventually, we had brake issues, which ended my race. »

This Hungarian weekend is therefore all the more bad news for the Silverstone team as they see Toro Rosso catching up, having been able to score twelve valuable points. There are thus only eight small points between Sahara Force India, Lotus, and Toro Rosso, promising a turbulent second half of the championship between the three teams.
