No points for Williams in Budapest

The qualifications were already not ideal for Williams, but hope was still present for the race. However, from the formation lap, things got complicated: by being poorly positioned on the grid, Felipe Massa triggered a restart of the starting procedure and received a five-second penalty. From then on, his race was a long ordeal, ultimately finishing 12th: « It has been a very difficult day for us today. I quickly received a penalty, and the medium tires clearly did not work in the traffic. So it was very complicated from there. »

Valtteri Bottas hoped to do better, especially after the safety car intervention, which tightened the gaps. He thus found himself in the group chasing Lewis Hamilton and significant points could still be hoped for. Unfortunately for the Finn, the chaos caused a collision with Daniil Kvyat, which resulted in a puncture on his car. There was then not much left to hope for until the end of the race: “It’s disappointing not to score points. At the start, we were in the rhythm. There were plenty of opportunities to finish well, but I suffered a puncture at the wrong time. From there, I struggled.”

Williams therefore finds itself isolated in the championship since it is 85 points behind Ferrari but still has a 55-point lead over Red Bull.
