Valtteri Bottas satisfied to place Williams in the top 3
On a motor circuit like Spa-Francorchamps, Williams approached the weekend with confidence. While Valtteri Bottas managed to finish 3rd, Felipe Massa slipped up in the final lap and only finished 7th.
If the Williams had spent a Friday clearly behind the best times, they were able to apply their developments during qualifying. Valtteri Bottas could only be satisfied with finishing 3rd, which had not happened since Abu Dhabi last year: I’m really happy with this result and it feels good to be back in the top 3. The team did everything right, and it was up to me to make it happen.
Unfortunately, it was not the same for Felipe Massa, missing by just a handful of hundredths of a second. Indeed, the gaps were rarely tighter on the long Spa circuit, with only 15 hundredths of a second separating the two Williams drivers; this is also the difference between 3rd and 7th place. The Brazilian could only regret his mistake, without losing hope for the race: « I lost a bit of time in the last sector, and it cost me several places. It was so tight. It’s frustrating, but it’s a long race and a circuit full of surprises, especially the weather! »
The Brazilian is among those who will benefit from Romain Grosjean’s penalty. He will therefore start in 6th position.
