Romain Grosjean is fine after his big crash in Sochi

The image is very impressive: Romain Grosjean’s single-seater completely loses its balance mid-turn, and the driver is unable to avoid the safety barriers. As a result, it was completely destroyed by the impact, prompting the deployment of the safety car.

However, the most important thing is that the driver emerged unscathed from this off-road incident: « I feel good physically. I’ll certainly have some soreness tomorrow morning, but I’ll be fine again in a few days. »

On the other hand, the French driver and his team do not yet know the reasons that led to this accident: « I lost the rear of the car in a very high-speed corner and couldn’t recover it. We don’t know exactly what happened. We need to analyze what occurred: was it a driver error or something technical? We will see. I am sorry for the guys because there is going to be a lot of work to repair the car. »

Federico Gastaldi, the team director, could only be pleased to see that his future former driver was doing well: « The most important thing today is that Romain is fine after his accident. We were all relieved to see him jump out of the car and see him smiling when he returned to the pits to tell everyone what had happened. »

But the team leader will also be satisfied with the four points that his other driver, Pastor Maldonado, was able to bring to the team, thanks to his eighth-place finish. The Venezuelan, however, felt that his car had not been at its best throughout the weekend: “Our car did not behave as expected at the beginning of the stint. But it came back after a few laps. We scored points, which is very positive for the team. Let’s hope we can continue to do so in the upcoming races.”
