Grouped shot for Red Bull in Mexico
You can't do much better in terms of consistency between teammates: Daniil Kvyat only edged out Daniel Ricciardo by a small thousandth! Both drivers believe they couldn't have done more.
Daniil Kvyat believes he could have gone a little faster in Q3, but it wouldn’t necessarily have changed his position on the grid since the gap to the top 3 was still significant: « Qualifying was interesting today. It was clean in Q1 and Q2, but the track is new, and it’s easy to make a small mistake that costs a lot. Maybe nobody had a perfect lap in Q3. I think the 4th place represents our speed well. I could have gone a little faster in Q3 but, anyway, it wouldn’t have placed us higher since the 3rd place was quite distant. »
In these conditions, the Russian driver seems to at least want to maintain his position at the end of the race as the podium appears out of reach under normal circumstances: “I don’t set my goals too high. I just want to have a clean race and bring home some points.”
If Daniel Ricciardo was only beaten by the smallest of margins, he was not particularly satisfied with his performance and settings: “The practice sessions went well, but I wasn’t really happy throughout the qualifying. We struggled to find the right settings for the car. The asphalt was constantly changing. There was grip, then there wasn’t. So it was very difficult. We didn’t change much on the car, but it’s one of those sessions where you’re always trying to find a little something extra. But it never quite happened in the end.”
Unlike last week, it therefore seems likely that the two drivers will be their own adversaries and that the battle will take place between them.
