Nico Hülkenberg secures 5th place for Sahara Force India
Thanks to a fine sixth place from Nico Hülkenberg, Sahara Force India is assured of finishing 5th in the Constructors' Championship. Things went less well for Sergio Perez, who only finished 13th.
With a solid 5th place on the grid, Nico Hülkenberg had high ambitions, and the German did not disappoint. Although he couldn’t hold off Valtteri Bottas at the start, he managed to overtake Daniil Kvyat and finish in a commendable sixth place, particularly thanks to a daring strategy involving only two stops: « Today’s race was fun, even though I didn’t get the best start due to wheel spin, which dropped me behind Bottas and Kvyat. Fortunately, I was able to regain one of those positions with an aggressive first pit stop. But this forced us to have two very long stints on the medium tires. That was our challenge of the day. We managed it by taking care of our tires and making the two-stop strategy work. »
But above all, the points from this sixth place were all the more important as they now ensure Sahara Force India finishes in fifth place, something the team had never achieved in its history: I am very happy with this sixth place. Scoring these points helps the team secure the 5th place in the championship, which is great news. It’s the best result in our history and it shows the progress we’ve made over the years. The 5th place is the result of the hard work of everyone in the team and we can be very proud of what we have achieved together.
The result means we’re certain of FIFTH place in the championship, our best result ever! HISTORY: MADE! #BrazilGP #FeelTheForce

But this time, Sahara Force India did not achieve a double points finish as Sergio Perez was unable to get past his rivals after a disappointing qualifying: « It wasn’t the best weekend for me. I’ve struggled with the car since the beginning and I feel like I didn’t go in the right direction with my setup yesterday. It was pretty much the same today. So, we will analyze all the data to address the issues before arriving in Abu Dhabi. »
