Toro Rosso returns to Ferrari

The first indication that such an agreement had been reached came during the FIA World Council at the beginning of the week when the Federation stated: « The World Council was informed that the FIA had authorized Ferrari to supply a fourth customer engine with the 2015 specifications of a power unit in 2016. »

When it was announced that Renault was returning as a team and that Red Bull would keep the Renault engine but with a Tag Heuer name, confirmation of Toro Rosso’s switch to Ferrari was only a matter of time.

Thus, just a few hours later, Ferrari announced that the agreement was finalized, through its director, Maurizio Arrivabene: « The Scuderia Ferrari and Scuderia Toro Rosso have reached an agreement that will see the Faenza team use Ferrari’s current engine during the 2016 Formula One season. »

The sister team of Red Bull has obviously confirmed the agreement that will allow them to benefit from the latest 2015 evolution of this engine: « Due to the last-minute nature of our decision for next year’s engine supply, the team will use the latest specification used in 2015. With Scuderia Ferrari cars finishing third and fourth in the last race of the season and second in the Constructors’ Championship, it’s a positive situation to start Scuderia Toro Rosso’s eleventh season in Formula 1. »

She also took the opportunity to confirm her two current drivers, namely Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen, which was also expected: « We can also count on Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. After being confirmed for the 2016 season, they will be able to translate their learning and this year’s experience into an even better quality technical feedback during the season. »

The engine market is now over. Now all that’s left is to know Manor’s drivers to complete the 2016 grid.
