Pirelli will conduct tests at Paul Ricard with Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull

One of the main difficulties for Pirelli in designing its F1-specific tires is conducting full-scale testing of its wet specifications. Indeed, the in-house engineers can never be certain of having at least one rainy day during winter testing, especially when these are held on circuits like Bahrain.

But one solution is to conduct dedicated testing on a track that can be flooded. This is precisely the case with the French circuit at Paul Ricard, which offers this kind of possibility. Pirelli will therefore take advantage of this on January 25 and 26.

In order not to give a competitive advantage to the three invited teams, Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari, they will be required to provide 2015 cars on which no modifications will have been made. Furthermore, it is not guaranteed that the main drivers will participate, as this presents a great opportunity for the young protégés of the different teams to benefit from track time.

We can still think that McLaren, after a catastrophic season from start to finish, won’t be against additional testing, a month before the official winter tests.
