Giampaolo Dall’Ara leaves Sauber
Two months before the start of the season, Sauber must deal with the departure of its head of track engineering, Giampaolo Dall'Ara. He is replaced by Tim Malyon, coming from Red Bull.
The Italian engineer had become one of the key figures in the Swiss team, where he arrived as a test engineer in 2000. He experienced rapid progression as four years later, he became a race engineer after becoming the head of the entire testing team.
In 2009, when Sauber came under the BMW fold, he was appointed director of track engineering, a position he has held until now.
If this has not been officially confirmed, he is reportedly heading to the DTM, where he would join BMW. A team spokesperson wanted to acknowledge his departure: “Giampaolo Dall’Ara has decided to leave the company after more than 15 years of service to pursue another challenge. We would like to thank Giampaolo for his high-level collaboration over all these years. We wish him the best for the future.”
His successor will not be a novice since Tim Malyon had been working at Red Bull since 2005, having spent the previous season with the team that was still called Jaguar. The Briton has therefore achieved a remarkable career progression as he remained the race engineer for the Red Bull team.
For Sauber, it’s also a great asset as they acquire the skills and experience of someone who has witnessed all the successful years of a leading team.
