Departure of Yasuhisa Arai from the head of Honda F1
Honda has decided to overhaul its Formula 1 organization. Yasuhisa Arai will therefore leave his position as head of motorsport, including F1, in favor of Yusuke Hasegawa.
It was initially planned for Yasuhisa Arai to leave his position at the end of the season in order to retire. However, the board of directors of the Japanese manufacturer decided to advance this departure to next week, on March 1st.
If it may seem surprising to make such an announcement the day after the first day of winter testing, it is certainly the direct consequence of the lack of performance and reliability that Honda had to face throughout last season.
In Japanese tradition, Yasuhisa Arai will not immediately leave the company but will now take on a managerial position within the Research and Development division, before retiring as planned.
