Williams retains Alex Lynn

When it was announced in Abu Dhabi that Lance Stroll was leaving the Ferrari program to become a development driver for Williams, there were concerns that Alex Lynn might lose this support.

There is nothing to it since the team has confirmed that it maintains its confidence in the 2014 GP3 champion, who had a good first GP2 season with two victories. Claire Williams explained her choice: “After a very encouraging first season with the team, we are delighted to be able to continue working with Alex in 2016. Alex played an important role in developing the race cars in 2015 while showcasing all his talent during his GP2 debut.”

The Briton also benefited from a confirmation of his extension at Dams even before Christmas, allowing him to put everything in place to aim for the title, which will be his main objective for the season: « With the team’s support, my main goal for this season will be to fight for the title in GP2. I am determined to prove that I deserve to be promoted as a full-time driver in Formula 1 in the not-so-distant future. »

Several F1 teams will therefore have a protégé aiming for the GP2 title as Alex Lynn will face competition from Nobuharu Matsushita (at ART Grand Prix with McLaren support), Jordan King (at Racing Engineering with Manor), or the Frenchman Pierre Gasly (at Prema with Red Bull).
