Official: Austin keeps its Grand Prix for 2016

Just over ten days before the start of the season, the season’s calendar is finally set. Indeed, since the calendar was published last December, the only unknown was the fate of the United States Grand Prix.

The fate of the Austin event was, indeed, jeopardized by the announcement from the State of Texas of a substantial reduction in its public subsidy for the event, which calls into question the event’s financial balance. However, it seems that an agreement may have been reached since the organizers have officially confirmed the holding of their event.

Furthermore, they have found a good way to further increase interest in their event as they have managed to reach an agreement to organize a concert by star Taylor Swift, which will be accessible to all ticket holders for the weekend. Bobby Epstein, the director of the circuit, could not hide his satisfaction: « We are so happy to confirm the return of COTA to F1 as well as the Taylor Swift concert. We couldn’t have a better way to celebrate our 5th F1 anniversary in Austin. Since we organized our event in 2012, we have gained a lot of experience, which has allowed us to make many improvements. »

The Circuit of the Americas will also be able to count on the presence of an American team, Haas, which should further strengthen the interest of the fans. This will be much needed after the catastrophic weather of the 2015 weekend, which had a very significant financial impact on the circuit.
