Paul di Resta becomes reserve driver for Williams
Despite being absent from the F1 grid for several seasons, Paul di Resta is officially returning to F1 by becoming the reserve driver for Williams.
If he is no longer a regular driver, Paul di Resta has not given up on his hopes of returning to racing. Therefore, he travels to numerous events, allowing him to remain visible to decision-makers.
It seems that his efforts have paid off as he becomes the new reserve driver for Williams. The Scottish driver owes this nomination to the support he receives from Mercedes, the team’s engine supplier, which also allows him to compete in DTM.
The former Force India driver is preparing for a busy season: « I am thrilled to join Williams as a reserve driver and I look forward to experiencing the 2016 season. It’s going to be a busy year with DTM with Mercedes AMG and attending Formula One Grand Prix in my new reserve role. I will give my all to both and I am excited about the exciting opportunities this year holds. »
Nevertheless, while Paul di Resta will conduct several simulator sessions for Williams to familiarize himself with the home car, he is not expected to take the wheel during an official Friday morning session. Thus, while Susie Wolff participated in two sessions, Adrian Sutil did not make any public appearances.
