Renault incorporates Nicholas Latifi

From the moment the 2016 organizational chart was revealed, Renault had announced that they had a reserve driver in the person of Esteban Ocon. Although the Frenchman is under contract with Mercedes and will participate in the DTM championship under the brand with the star, he should also be able to sharpen his F1 knowledge by participating in some Friday morning sessions.

But the two main drivers, Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer, will also have to accommodate the presence of another driver. Frédéric Vasseur, the competition director of the manufacturer, indicated that Renault’s goal was to enable the Canadian to obtain his Super License, essential to compete in a Grand Prix: “While participating in the GP2 Series – which is a perfect foundation for young drivers – Nicholas will benefit from a program with us, so he can obtain his Super License with the goal of taking the wheel during at least one FP1 session this year.”

The 20-year-old driver will also be completing his first full season in GP2, after making a few appearances over the last two seasons. He will be supported by the French team Dams, which is determined to challenge the dominance of ART Grand Prix. His teammate will also have a program within an F1 team, as it is Alex Lynn, who is affiliated with Williams.
