Sebastian Vettel could not improve as much as the Mercedes
Just like in Melbourne, the two Ferraris must settle for the second row on the starting grid, with Sebastian Vettel again ahead of Kimi Räikkönen.
The men from Maranello would have gladly signed for the qualification to end after the first round of laps in Q3 since they had managed to get ahead of Lewis Hamilton. But the Briton managed to pull off a dream lap on the second attempt, which surprised Sebastian Vettel: “Today, we cannot complain about much. It’s a big surprise that Lewis and Nico managed to improve so much at the end. For me, the track conditions were very similar to the previous stint. That’s why my time was almost the same as before.”
But the German remembers that he could have won in Australia if Ferrari hadn’t messed up the tire strategy: « Tomorrow, we will try to get a good start but not like in Australia after… We know we’re not yet where we want to be but we continue to push hard. »
As for Kimi Räikkönen, he was not able to improve on his second attempt in Q3: « With the last set of super softs, I experienced some difficulties in the first corners. So I couldn’t improve my lap time, but apart from that, it was okay. However, it’s still not the result we aim for. We want to be in front. »
The Finn hopes that his machinery won’t let him down again so he can score big points at the end of the race.
