As the names continue to emerge from the so-called "Panama Papers" affair, two F1-related names have emerged. They are Nico Rosberg and Mercedes.
Personalities from all sectors appear to be involved in tax evasion processes through a law firm based in Panama.
The first name associated with Formula 1 is Nico Rosberg. Indeed, according to information from the German channel ARD, the contract signed between the two parties in 2014 was actually signed between Mercedes and a company based in Panama, called Ambitious Group Limited. This company is, in turn, owned by two other companies, based in another tax haven, the Channel Islands of Jersey, named Magnus Nominees Limited and Fidelis Nominee Limited.
If nothing indicates that this transaction is illegal, the fact that it is made public risks having a significant impact on discussions, especially on the terms of a potential extension of Rosberg’s contract. Meanwhile, the German driver’s lawyer has indicated that this concerns private affairs and that the driver will not publicly comment on the matter.
