Felipe Nasr feels better in his Sauber
Although Felipe Nasr was feeling better in his car, he could do no better than 19th. That's still better than his teammate Marcus Ericsson, who finished the session bottom of the table.
Sauber is facing significant financial difficulties, which have a considerable impact on its development potential. That is why the Swiss team is also struggling in the sports arena. The Russian Grand Prix qualifying was no exception.
Thus Felipe Nasr could only be disappointed to be 19th: “Starting 19th is not a satisfactory result. It’s really a shame because I was on a good lap at the end of Q1 but I braked a little too late in turn 13.”
The positive aspect remains that his new chassis brought by Sauber for this weekend seems to suit him better: « I feel more comfortable in the car this weekend and that’s what matters. In terms of settings, we’ve made good progress from one session to the next. I will now work on a few details for tomorrow. I am confident I can fight for a few positions in the race. »
This positive aspect is hard to find for Marcus Ericsson, who recorded the slowest time of the session, even behind the two Manors: « Obviously, it’s a disappointing result. I thought the FP3 was a small step forward for me, but in qualifying, I struggled again with the tires. I’ve had problems all weekend getting them to work in the right window. I also encountered some traffic in qualifying, which didn’t help. Nevertheless, we just weren’t fast enough today. »
