For his return to Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat has just one objective in mind: to show on the track that Red Bull's management made the wrong decision regarding him.

Daniil Kvyat wants to respond on track

The pre-weekend press conference was highly anticipated as the FIA had decided to call on the two Toro Rosso drivers and Max Verstappen. They even went so far as to seat the three men side-by-side in the front row.

Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen were obviously at the center of questions after their seat swap this week. Both men had to answer numerous questions. While the Dutchman was in the comfortable position of having been promoted, the Russian had to find a balance between the disappointment of no longer being in a top team and the fact of still being a Formula 1 driver.

Thus, the now former Red Bull driver wanted to assert that he primarily wanted to give his response on the track: “Well, obviously, I think the decision was a bit of a shock for me. That’s how it is now, and I think I’ve always given my responses on the track, and I think nothing will change. I will try to give the strongest possible response on the track.”

He also reflected on the fact that in three weeks, he went from the podium in China to a team change: « If you look at what happened three weeks ago, I was on the podium and then some decisions were suddenly made around me. The bosses make the decisions, and there’s nothing I can do but accept them and do the best job possible with the team I’m with now. Currently, it’s Toro Rosso. It should be fine, but I think I’ve done everything well so far. And nothing will change on my part. »

The 2013 GP3 champion also shared a bit more about how he learned the news of his team change. While he was at home watching Game of Thrones, he received a call from Helmut Marko, who informed him of his decision: “I was in Moscow, sitting on the couch watching a TV series when the call came in. It was: ‘Hello, well, we have news for you.’ I think the call lasted 20 minutes. I wanted and I think I deserved an explanation. I learned a lot of interesting details, I must say, but I prefer to keep them to myself for now.”

To conclude the press conference, Daniil Kvyat also slipped in a message heavy with implication when asked about the tire allocation chosen for this weekend: « *”It seems to me it’s the team’s choice, right? So the team chose the tires and I get what’s left but I keep my points. I like to keep my points. And the podium.”* » For those who understand…
