Max Verstappen focuses on his integration at Red Bull
A successful debut for Max Verstappen at Toro Rosso, with 6th and 8th places in the two sessions. Daniel Ricciardo stayed ahead of the Dutchman (5th and 6th).
Max Verstappen has to relearn everything since the way his Red Bull operates has nothing to do with that of Toro Rosso: « I’m still learning a lot about the car: the driving position, the steering wheel position, all the buttons, and the procedures are completely different from those of Toro Rosso but we are working on it and it is getting better and better. »
In these conditions, performance over a single lap wasn’t the most important, even though he had no trouble getting into the top 10 during both sessions: « We worked a lot and did a lot of laps. I think that’s the most important thing for me at the moment. I’m still getting used to the car, I don’t feel like I’m at the limit yet. »
His new teammate Daniel Ricciardo obviously doesn’t miss any steps in integrating the young driver: « Everyone is watching what the team does this weekend to see how Max is doing. I’m a small part of it, and it’s exciting. »
But he does not forget the priority, which is to score big points: « For this weekend, we expect to finish in the top 5, that is always our goal. Anything above that will only bring bigger smiles. »
