Williams still struggling in Monaco

Monaco is a circuit which traditionally does Williams little good. This was again the case this year, as both drivers had to stop in Q2, with Valtteri Bottas finishing 11th and Felipe Massa 14th.

Even when the situation may seem negative, it is important to reassure oneself with the positive aspects. Thus, while it may be disappointing for Williams not to be in Q3, they can reassure themselves by noting that they did better than last year when Valtteri Bottas didn’t even make it past Q1 and settled for 17th place.

The qualifying session went better for the Finn, who placed 11th. He will even gain a position due to Kimi Räikkönen’s penalty. Starting in the top 10, he can finally hope to score his first points in the Principality: « Obviously, we are not happy not to be in Q3, but we have made progress, which is a good thing. We must try to do even better, and there is a good chance that I will score my first points here. »

As for Felipe Massa, he qualifies in the same position as last year: « It was not an easy qualifying for us. We were fighting for a tenth all the time. Unfortunately, without that tenth, we lost several positions. It’s really a shame because we were very close. »

Williams therefore knows that they still need to improve on slow-speed circuits since their chassis still doesn’t seem to work well in very tight corners.
