Five-place penalty for Sebastian Vettel in Austria
To avoid taking any risks, Ferrari decided to change Sebastian Vettel's gearbox before the start of the Austrian weekend. As a result, Sebastian Vettel has already inherited a five-place grid penalty.
The start hasn’t even begun yet, and Sebastian Vettel is already hit with a penalty: indeed, Ferrari engineers discovered metal fragments in the oil of his gearbox after the Baku Grand Prix. They deemed it too risky to keep this gearbox and therefore changed it before the deadline set by the regulations.
The German driver finds himself in the same situation as in Sochi, where he had already received the same penalty for the same reason. His start was eventful with the double collision with Daniil Kvyat, who was experiencing his last Grand Prix with Red Bull.
With the first two corners of the Austrian circuit being right-angled, getting pushed back into the pack is never a good thing, as demonstrated by the collision between Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso last year.
