Electronic problems for Esteban Gutierrez in Austria
Esteban Gutierrez had a particularly complicated Friday in Austria, as he experienced an electronic problem in each of the day's sessions. Romain Grosjean was able to complete his program.
Since the beginning of the season, Esteban Gutierrez has not been spared from technical problems. Austria was no exception this Friday as the Mexican driver was forced to stay in the pits during both sessions due to the same issue: « It wasn’t easy to be consistent, especially in the first session. I managed to do a few laps but we had a problem that interrupted the whole session. It was the same during the second session. I only did a few laps and then it started raining before I was held back by a new problem. »
Günther Steiner, the team principal, provided more details about this issue: He had an electronic problem, which only allowed him to do an installation lap at the end of the session. We then waited for the rain to pass but, unfortunately, we had the same problem with Esteban, which led to the stoppage of his program.
Fortunately, the team did not experience the same problems with Romain Grosjean’s car, which was able to complete its entire program: « This afternoon, we focused on a long stint with a lot of fuel. The car doesn’t perform too badly. It’s about understanding the tires, avoiding graining, and bringing them into the right operating window. »
