Lewis Hamilton hit by a 15-place grid penalty at Spa
The Belgian weekend promises to be a complicated one for Lewis Hamilton, who had to change his engine once again. As a result, he will suffer a 15-place grid penalty.
Lewis Hamilton is preparing for a race full of attacks and overtakes as he faces a 15-place grid penalty for using a sixth MGU-H (the electric motor that helps restart the turbo at low revs) and a sixth turbo, as confirmed this morning by Mercedes.
“For @LewisHamilton, this comprises ICE 4, MGU-K 4, MGU-H 6 and TC 6. This incurs a 15 place grid penalty… (2/3) #F1 #BelgianGP #Spa #FP1” — MERCEDES AMG F1 (@MercedesAMGF1) 26 août 2016
Nico Rosberg therefore has a clear path to try to reduce his gap in the championship, which stands at 19 points before the Ardennes event.
However, the long straights of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit should offer plenty of overtaking opportunities for the British driver, who will be looking to minimize the damage relative to his teammate and title rival.
