Esteban Gutiérrez still outside the points, Grosjean stopped before the start
For the fifth time this season, Esteban Gutierrez finished in the worst position: 11th, the first out of the points. As for Romain Grosjean, he was unable to start due to a problem with his braking system.
Things just don’t seem to be going Esteban Gutierrez’s way. At Monza, he managed to reach Haas’s first Q3, only to miss his start and lose any chance of scoring points. In Singapore, he started from 13th position but had to settle for yet another 11th place finish by the end of the race, his fifth of the season.
The young Mexican had to resign himself to being just outside the points after yet another lackluster start: « I lost a bit of time at the start and it was quite difficult to make up for it on track. Trying to push with the tires, I overheated them and they started to degrade towards the end of the stint. However, we finished 11th, once again very close to the points. »
Günther Steiner, his team manager, could only lament in turn to see his driver unable to increase the team’s points: « Esteban did a good job today. He finished, once again, 11th. I’m almost tired of saying that now but that’s the way it is. You always want to do better but we fought and finished 11th. Esteban did a good job all weekend. So kudos to him. »
On the other hand, Romain Grosjean’s catastrophic weekend ended even before the start as he was unable to take to the track for the formation lap due to a new technical problem: « There’s not much to say, to be honest. I lost the electronic brakes and I couldn’t race like that. I don’t know what happened. »
The weekend was therefore not fruitful for the American team, while Renault managed to get back in the points with Kevin Magnussen, just like Toro Rosso with Daniil Kvyat. The gap separating them from the Faenza team has therefore increased again.
