Felipe Massa finishes final race in the points
Felipe Massa had a successful outing, finishing ninth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas, on the other hand, was forced to retire with a suspension problem.
Felipe Massa experienced a great moment two weeks ago when he bid farewell to his Brazilian fans following his retirement from the race. But his last race was indeed in Abu Dhabi, and the outcome was more fortunate. He was able to secure a final points finish, in 9th place. This position is consistent with the year’s standings as Williams finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
He could only mention his pride in leaving with his head held high, especially since he had to defend himself to the end against his former teammate, Fernando Alonso: « I am proud to have fought until the last lap of the race just as I fought during the first lap of my career! I want to thank everyone, all those who have always been with me. Thanks to all the fans and to Williams, whom I will continue to support in the future. »
The newly retired driver also had a particular interest in bringing his car back intact at the finish since it is being gifted to him by Williams as a farewell present: « I took a little extra care with the car because it will now be my car. Thanks again to Williams for the gift! »
It was therefore time to celebrate his career one last time in the paddock, surrounded by all his loved ones.

On the other hand, Valtteri Bottas was less fortunate during this last race of the year as he was forced to retire in his 77th Grand Prix, his favorite number: « It’s disappointing to finish the race after only a few laps. I was in 9th place when I suddenly felt something break at the back of the car, with the suspension. The car was undrivable after that. We tried to fix it in the garage but it wasn’t possible and we had to retire. It’s a shame to end the season this way but it means I’m now looking forward to next season. »
The Finn will remain with Williams but will now have the young Lance Stroll as his teammate.
