Jordan King moves to MP Motorsport
After two years with Racing Engineering, Jordan King has found a home with MP Motorsport. He will be working alongside young Brazilian Sergio Sette Camara.
Last year, Jordan King was able to participate in two Friday morning practice sessions with Manor. While he hoped to extend the experience in 2017, the situation changed with the small team’s bankruptcy.
Questioned by the site GPupdate.net, the Briton revealed that F1 was his priority for the 2017 season but he had to give it up: « Manor was clearly a target. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. It called everything into question and we had to reassess what I was going to do this year. That’s probably why my announcement came very late compared to others. Some others made their announcements in recent weeks but we know the deal was done for a long time. For me, another season in GP2 was not my first choice, it was Formula 1. But we had to press the Reset button after the bankruptcy announcement. »
Nevertheless, the role of the driver could not have been to become a full-time driver at Manor since he only has 10 Super License points, due to his 7th places in European Formula 3 in 2014 and in GP2 last season, far from the 40 needed to obtain the valuable pass.
He therefore turned to MP Motorsport, where Oliver Rowland left a vacant seat by joining Dams. He had thus tested with the Dutch team during the end-of-season tests in Abu Dhabi: « Working with the team during the tests was an essential element in my decision. They work very well together and everyone works very hard but with a smile on their faces. I know they will always do their best. »
The team will therefore have an experienced driver alongside Sergio Sette Camara. The Brazilian lost the support of Red Bull over the winter after a disappointing European F3 season, finishing in an 11th place overall. On the other hand, he will continue to receive support from Petrobras.
