James Allison becomes Mercedes Technical Director

When he left Maranello with a bang in the middle of summer, it was expected that James Allison would join Renault or McLaren.

But since then, the situation in the small world of the technical directors’ transfer market has significantly evolved with Paddy Lowe’s decision not to renew his contract with Mercedes. His confirmation at Williams should happen soon, as the various contractual details are reported to have been settled between the different parties.

It was therefore tempting for the engineer to join the team that has secured three consecutive titles. This has just been made official by the team, through its director, Toto Wolff: « I am delighted to announce that James is joining Mercedes and I look forward to working with him. Our technical team is extremely competent at all levels and is at its best after three consecutive world championship titles. It wasn’t easy to find the right personality to strengthen our team of experienced engineers while allowing space for our young talents to develop, but he also brings his own vision to his role. James is a very good engineer. I think we have found the perfect person who will integrate well into our leadership team. »

Mercedes achieves a very good operation by bringing back an engineer who has already been a world champion at Renault and Ferrari. This once again shows what a heavyweight Ferrari has let slip away due to personal differences and results that were slow to come.
