Last on the grid, Daniil Kvyat has nothing to lose in the race
Daniil Kvyat had to battle with a car that was not to his liking. He will therefore start last, while Carlos Sainz failed to make it into Q3 and had to settle for 12th place.
Barcelona is definitely a difficult theater for Daniil Kvyat. Last year, it was there that he was demoted to Toro Rosso, which didn’t prevent him from setting the fastest lap in the race. The 2017 edition seems to be quite complicated for the Russian driver as he finished last in qualifying.
The reason given is that he does not feel comfortable in his single-seater: « The car was really difficult to drive. To be honest, we have quite a few things to change… It was already difficult yesterday and it continued today. I had absolutely no grip and I just couldn’t handle the car here. »
It is therefore a long evening of work ahead for a driver who will be eager to climb up: « Starting last tomorrow, we have nothing to lose. We just have to push forward and see what we can do after a lot of work tonight. »
Aiming for the points will be less complicated for his teammate, who will start 12th. However, he couldn’t hide his disappointment at not getting into the final part of qualifying: « We knew it would be very difficult to make it into Q3, but we were very close. It’s a shame because I think we had the right car balance and I felt comfortable. I hope we have a good race tomorrow. »
He will therefore be keen to score points once again in front of his home crowd, especially since there is a stand named after him.
