Toro Rosso pair finish in the points in Spain

Symbol of a change of era, the best Spaniard at the Spanish Grand Prix is not Fernando Alonso but Carlos Sainz. While the McLaren driver had to settle for 12th place, the Toro Rosso driver collected the points for seventh place. His home race certainly suits him, as he finished 6th last year.

However, he nearly lost the benefit of his very good start when he almost got hit at the second turn due to the damage caused by Kimi Räikkönen and Max Verstappen: « What a good race, I’m very happy! It was a bit chaotic at the start: we gained some positions but then I went wide at the second turn to avoid the crash. So I lost a few positions that I had gained, but we were 9th. »

He was then able to attack throughout the race. He was very aggressive behind Kevin Magnussen, even attempting to pass on the grass after their first tire change. In the end, he recovered 7th place following the penalty given to Pascal Wehrlein.

Satisfaction was also present in the Toro Rosso garage as Daniil Kvyat managed to make up for his missed qualifications to climb back into the points, finishing in ninth place: « It feels good to finish in the points today. I am proud of myself and my engineers. We didn’t give up after a tough day yesterday and followed a great strategy to move from last to ninth! »

This allows the Faenza team to take 5th place from Williams, who were unable to score points in Spain.
