Esteban Ocon sets out his ambitions for the rest of the season in Monaco
Sahara Force India driver Esteban Ocon was enthusiastic about the Monaco Grand Prix, given his car's performance so far this season. He also revealed that he was aiming for an ambitious podium finish by the end of the championship.
Before running the first free practice session tomorrow in the Principality, the French driver of the Force India team answered, for his first participation in a Monaco Grand Prix, questions from journalists at a press conference.
When asked how he prepared for this atypical urban event in the Principality, he reveals that while he did spend some time watching previous Grand Prix editions, he also dedicated a significant portion of his training to playing video games that more or less faithfully reproduce the mythical urban track. Since this training dates back to his childhood, he considers himself perfectly ready to tackle the Monaco track!
Step onto a podium
Beyond his preparation, the Frenchman insisted on reminding that the car was improving as the races went on, as evidenced by the points scored in each race by the Indian team. He also took the opportunity to clearly state his ambitions by the end of the 2017 championship: “to clinch a podium,” he declared. A performance that would undoubtedly be a lifesaver for the team and for the career of the promising driver.
In the internal struggle against his teammate Sergio Pérez, Esteban Ocon admits that the start of the season shows a slight dominance from the former McLaren driver, but he nevertheless sees a possible turnaround that could materialize as early as this Monaco stage. He is already pleased with maintaining the same pace, especially on a circuit like Barcelona. All that remains is to deliver results and take the final step.
