15-place penalty for Jenson Button due to new technical problem
Jenson Button's return to F1 is not going to be easy: he's going to suffer a 15-place penalty following a change of MGU-H and turbo on his McLaren.
Jenson Button’s return has just become even more complicated. If the Briton didn’t want to put additional pressure on himself and simply enjoy the opportunity to race on the streets of Monaco, his task is going to be even more challenging than expected.
Indeed, the Briton received a 15-place penalty this morning because McLaren had to install an entirely new MGU-H and a new turbocharger. The penalty is due to the fact that it’s the usage per car that counts, not per driver. Therefore, the numerous problems Fernando Alonso has faced since the start of the season have contributed to the total for Jenson Button. As a result, he is almost certain to start last tomorrow.
The only advantage is that this fifth element can now be used by Fernando Alonso for the rest of the season without incurring any further penalty.
