Matt Bishop leaves McLaren

Since the change of engine supplier, McLaren is far from its former glory, and the points brought in by the two drivers during the last Hungarian Grand Prix are just a bright spot in an otherwise dull season.

In this context, Matt Bishop, the director of communication for the team and the group, has decided to leave Woking, as he announced himself: « After much consideration, I have decided to leave McLaren, a company I have loved and served for 10 sometimes fabulous and occasionally difficult years. It was a tough decision, but it was the right one: now is the right time. »

But this paddock figure is unlikely to stray far from a sport he is passionate about. It is therefore very likely that an announcement will be made in the near or distant future, potentially on the Liberty Media side: « The recent changes in the capital and management of Formula 1 have made it an even more exciting company to work for. With my desire to broaden my professional horizon, I intend to rest and reflect before considering which new challenges I will be able to take on. »

Zak Brown, the group president, commented on the announcement of his now former director: « I always respect ambition and I know that opportunities in Formula 1 for Matt are numerous and varied. Given the exciting times in our sport, I can understand that he wants to pursue such opportunities. »

So now the only thing left to find out is where the former journalist and editor-in-chief of F1 Racing magazine will go, who joined McLaren during the 2008 season, the year of the team’s most recent championship.
