Silverstone offers a credit for the 2018 tickets

F1 is often perceived as too expensive for the middle class's budget. Silverstone contributes to this perception by introducing a credit option that allows tickets for the 2018 edition to be paid in 10 interest-free installments.

Silverstone offers a credit for the 2018 tickets

A milestone may have been reached: never before had a F1 circuit established a credit plan to facilitate ticket purchases for its event. This is now a reality with the announcement made by Silverstone.

In order not to further enrage its fan base, the British circuit has put in place a financial offer with a 0% interest rate, which essentially means paying for a ticket in 10 installments without fees.

But the displayed figures are still dizzying: the general admission starts at £175 (the same amount in euros with the current rate) while the stands in the pit straight or at Club are priced at £450. But this is just the beginning since the organizers specify that prices will increase more and more as the event approaches.

If Liberty Media shows its commitment to getting closer to the fans, the issue of fees to be paid by circuits to host an event is at the heart of the sport’s economic future. This is why Silverstone announced last month that it was exercising its option to break its contract, which ran until 2027, in order to renegotiate on a lower basis.

The circuit can rely in its negotiations on the tens of thousands of fans who flock around the track, the popularity of the course among drivers, and being in close proximity to almost all the teams’ headquarters.

Given the new initiative of the circuit, it indeed seems that there is urgency…
