James Key remains at Toro Rosso

The position of Toro Rosso is somewhat ambiguous: while it is a full-fledged team, its raison d’être is to serve as a training ground for young drivers identified by the Red Bull program.

The team has lived up to its reputation in recent seasons, with the performances of its cars frequently highlighted. The team’s director, James Key, is obviously no stranger to this success. The Briton, who joined the team in 2012 from Sauber, is often presented as one of the best in his field and as a contender for Adrian Newey’s position when he eventually steps down.

Franz Tost, the team principal, can only be pleased to retain his director for an undisclosed duration: « Formula 1 is a team sport, but an individual can make a difference. So far, James has proven he can do it by leading the technical aspect of the organization. He has not only been able to produce chassis-aerodynamic packages that are highly regarded in the paddock, but he has also shown that he has the necessary management qualities to bring out the best from the different departments working together in Faenza and Bicester. »

Indeed, while the chassis part is based in Italy, in the former Minardi facilities, the team has acquired a wind tunnel in England to facilitate the recruitment of new collaborators, who are reluctant to leave the Motorsport Valley and relocate with their spouses and children.
