Official: Sebastian Vettel extends with Ferrari until 2020
Although he said the opposite at the beginning of the weekend, Sebastian Vettel has finally extended his contract for an additional three years with Scuderia Ferrari.
The truth of one day is definitely not that of the next: questioned on the subject this Thursday, Sebastian Vettel replied that there would be no news on the subject in the next two weeks. However, at the end of the third free practice session, Ferrari released a simple statement indicating that the driver had signed a new contract to race with the Scuderia until 2020.
This therefore means that both Scuderia drivers are extended for the next season as the announcement of Kimi Räikkönen’s extension was also made earlier this week.
By extending by three years, Sebastian Vettel is therefore the lead driver with the longest commitment duration since Fernando Alonso’s contract expires at the end of this season and Lewis Hamilton’s at the end of next season. This allows the German to further cement his position at Maranello. It’s quite hard to imagine him accepting a driver like Lewis Hamilton joining him at the end of his current contract.
The key to the transfer market is therefore more than ever Fernando Alonso, who conditions his extension on clear progress from Honda…
